Virtual Adult ADHD Evaluation

Finding clarity as an adult shouldn’t be as overwhelming as the symptoms you’re trying to manage. If you’ve spent years wondering why “simple” tasks feel like climbing a mountain, a virtual ADHD evaluation is a streamlined, scientifically rigorous way to get answers from the comfort of your own home.

Here is a breakdown of what the process looks like, why it works, and how to prepare.

What is a Virtual ADHD Evaluation?

A virtual evaluation is a comprehensive clinical assessment conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. It follows the same diagnostic gold standards as an in-person visit but removes common “executive function barriers”—like commuting, navigating a new office, or sitting in a fluorescent-lit waiting room.

1. The Pre-Assessment Phase

Before your “face-to-face” call, you’ll complete a series of digital intake forms and standardized rating scales. These aren’t just “online quizzes”; they are validated clinical tools that help your provider map out your symptom history before the session even begins.

2. The Clinical Interview (60 Minutes)

This is the heart of the evaluation. You’ll meet with a clinician who specializes in ADHD to discuss:

  • Current Impact: How symptoms affect your work, relationships, and home life today.
  • Developmental History: Because ADHD is neurodevelopmental, your provider will look for patterns that existed in early childhood.
  • Differential Diagnosis: They will work to rule out or identify conditions that may result in similar difficulties such as anxiety, depression, or sleep disorders.
3. Collateral Evidence

To build a 360-degree view, your provider may suggest:

  • Reviewing old report cards or work performance reviews.
  • Having a partner, parent, or close friend complete a brief observer questionnaire.
4. Standardized Testing

To obtain objective, clinically validated data on your self-regulation abilities you will complete a continuous performance test via a secure testing platform. This assessment must be completed on a computer, but can be completed in your own home or your local library. It is important that it is completed in a quiet environment with minimal distractions, so you will want to turn off your phone, TV, music, or any other electronics that might distract you during completion of the test.

5. Results & Care Mapping

Once the data is synthesized, you’ll have a follow-up session to review the findings. If you receive a diagnosis, you’ll receive treatment recommendations. You may also receive recommendations for additional assessment, regardless of whether a diagnosis of ADHD is made.

Important Information

Due to these evaluations being conducted completely virtually with no in-office appointments, your evaluation cannot be billed to your insurance company and you are responsible for all Out-Of-Pocket costs. The total cost of the virtual ADHD evaluation is $1,750. This fee includes an initial clinical interview appointment with a clinician, completion of ratings and questionnaires, completion of a continuous performance test, a review appointment to discuss the results of the evaluation, and generation of a brief report documenting results and recommendations from the evaluation.

This evaluation will ONLY assess for the presence of ADHD, and will NOT assess for other neurodevelopmental or psychological disorders. If results of your evaluation raise concerns for other neurodevelopmental or psychological disorders a recommendation may be made for you to complete additional evaluation. You may seek out such evaluation through another provider in your area. If you choose to complete additional evaluation with AAPSA there will be additional charges that will be discussed with you and provided in writing prior to you moving forward with such evaluation.

Payment of the fee for the virtual ADHD evaluation and completion of any, or all components, of the evaluation does not guarantee diagnosis of ADHD or any other condition or any particular recommendation for treatment or future evaluation. All clinical decisions including diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and additional evaluation recommendations are based on clinical expertise and interpretation of your history and testing results.

  • Why Choose Virtual?
    • Expert: Access to experts outside of your area.
    • Comfort: You are often most “yourself” in your own environment, which can lead to a more accurate clinical picture.
    • Accessibility: Skip the 6-month waitlists at local clinics. Most virtual platforms can see you within days or weeks.
    • Lower Cost: Virtual evaluations can be completed at a lower cost.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Pro-Tip: Since ADHD can make “gathering your thoughts” difficult, keep a “glitch list” on your phone for a week before your session. Note down every time you lose your keys, lose track of a conversation, or feel paralyzed by a task for instance.
